IPL Match Report: Match No. 40 – Delhi Capitals  Hold Nerves In Last-Ball Thriller

Rishabh Pant's heroic innings leads Delhi Capitals to victory in a thrilling last-ball finish against Gujarat Titans.

Toss: Gujarat Titans won the toss & elected to field. 

First Innings Summary :

Delhi Capitals batting first, got to a good start with Prithvi Shaw & Jake Fraser-McGurk, but couldn’t keep the momentum. At 35 on the board, DC lost their first wicket in the form of Jake. Then at the same over, Shaw also got out. Inside the power play, DC could only score 44 runs losing 3 wickets. All 3 wickets were taken by Sandeep Warrier. Axar Patel was promoted in the top order and played an important innings & also built a good partnership of 113 runs with captain Rishabh Pant.

Axar Patel scored 66 off 43 balls. Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 88 runs off 43 balls. Tristan Stubbs played a brilliant cameo, making 26 runs off only 7 deliveries. With combined efforts, DC set a target of 225 runs for Gujarat Titans. Sandeep Warrier took 3 wickets & Noor Ahmed took 1.

Second Innings Summary :

Chasing a huge target of 225 runs, Gujarat Titans failed to get an ideal start as captain Subhman Gill got out scoring just 6(5) runs. Wriddhiman Saha & Sai Sudharsan built a much-needed partnership. Both together scored 82 runs. GT’s score was 67-1 at the end of power play. Saha made 39 off 25 balls. But after that partnership, GT was unable to another solid partnership. Sai Sudharsan made 65 off 39 balls. David Miller played a crucial inning to keep GT in the game. He played a knock of 55 runs off just 23 balls. Rashid Khan did try to finish the game for GT, making 21 off 11 balls, but 19 runs from the last over was a difficult task for him too.

Delhi Capitals won the match by 4 runs at the end. Rasikh Dar Salam picked up 3 wickets. Kuldeep Yadav picked 2. Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar & Axar Patel got 1 wicket each. 

Rishabh Pant was named Man of the Match for his powerful innings off 88(43).
