5 May, 2024 (Sunday)
Venue: Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala
Toss: Punjab Kings won the toss & decided to bowl first.
First Innings Summary :
Winning the toss Punjab Kings captain Sam Curran asked Chennai Super Kings to bat first. CSK did not get the perfect start as Rahane was dismissed in the 2nd over Arshdeep Singh. Ruturaj & Darly Mitchell handled the pressure and built a much-needed partnership. Both batters added 57 runs for the 2nd wicket. In the 8th over, Rahul Chahar picked both Ruturaj & Shivam Dube back-to-back in 2 balls. After that CSK didn’t get a chance to build any big partnership. Punjab picked wickets in regular intervals, which helped them restrict CSK to a low total. Ruturaj scored 32(21) & Darly Mitchell scored 30(19). Ravindra Jadeja was the highest run-getter for CSK, as he scored 43 off 26 balls, as CSK put 167 runs on the board losing 9 wickets. Rahul Chahar & Harshal Patel picked 3 wickets each. Arshdeep picked 2 & Sam Curran picked 1.
Second Innings Summary :
Punjab Kings had a target of 168 runs to chase down in 20 overs. CSK started brilliantly with the ball as Tushar Deshpande picked 2 big wickets of Bairstow & Rossouw in the 2nd over of the innings. After losing 2 early wickets, Prabhsimran Singh & Shashank Singh added a much-needed partnership of 53 runs. Shashank got out after being set on 27 runs off 20 balls. Prabhsimran scored 30 off 23 balls. Once Shashank & Prabhsimran were dismissed by Jadeja, PBKS never came back in the game. CSK picked back-to-back wickets and put pressure on PBKS batters. Punjab’s batting looked pretty ordinary in this match. PBKS low order batsmen tried to pull things back a bit but the CSK bowler bowled beautifully to defend their low total and win the match by 28 runs. Jadeja was again the star performer in this innings as he picked 3 wickets for just 20 runs. Tushar & Simarjeet picked 2 wickets each. Santner & Shardul got 1 wicket each. With the win, CSK keeps their hopes alive for the playoffs.
Ravindra Jadeja was named Player of the Match for his 43(26) with the bat & 3-20(4) with the ball.
