IPL Match Report: Match No. 36 – KKR Wins Last Ball Thriller

KKR celebrates after a dramatic last-ball win against RCB in IPL Match 36

Toss: Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the toss & decided to field first. 

First Innings Summary :

KKR were asked to bat first by RCB. Kolkata got a good start with Phil Salt. Inform Sunil Narine struggled to score in this match. Salt got out making after a fiery innings of 48 runs off 14 balls. KKR scored 75 runs in the power play but lost 3 wickets. Rinku Singh looked in touch but couldn’t convert that into a big innings as he got out on 24(16). Captain Shreyash Iyer anchored the innings with his 50 off 36 balls. With Russell and Ramandeep scoring 27(20) & 24(9) respectively, Kolkata Knight Riders reached a total of 222 losing 6 wickets. For RCB, Yash Dayal & Cameron Green got 2 wicktes each. Siraj & Ferguson got 1 wicket respectively. 

Second Innings Summary :

Having to chase 223 runs, RCB got to a good start. Kohli was looking in good touch but got out in a controversial full toss ball scoring 18(7). 
Virat was not called for a no-ball as he was out of his crease and the ball was dipping below his waist height. Varun Chakravarti dismissed Faf du Plessis early, with Venkatesh Iyer taking a stunning catch. RCB scored 74-2 inside the 6 overs of power play. Will Jacks played a beautiful innings of 55 runs off 32 balls which bought RCB right back into the game. Rajat Patidar’s fiery innings of 52 off 23 balls almost took away the game from KKR, but Andre Russell took the wickets of both Jacks & Patidar in the same over to bring back KKR into the game. The match was of full twist and turn as Sunil Narine also picked 2 wickets in his final over. RCB lost 4 wickets in the 12th & 13th over of the match. RCB needed 49 runs to win in the last 5 overs, with Dinesh Karthik & Prabhudessai in the crease. KKR bowlers kept things tight, as RCB needed 21 runs in the last over with Karan Sharma & Siraj playing. Karan Sharma hit 3 sixes in 4 balls of Starc, making RCB need just 3 runs off 2 balls.

Karan Sharma was caught and bowled on the second last ball, and KKR clinched victory by 1 run with a runout on the final ball. Russell picked 3 important wickets. Natine & Harshit Rana got 2 wickets each. Starc & Varun both picked 1 wicket. 

Andre Russell was named Man of the Match as he scored 27 runs with the bat & also picked 3 big wickets to ensure the win for KKR
