Things I Can Control (Part 1)

Things i can control (Part 1)

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by life. Between unpredictable news cycles, relationship challenges, and the endless demands of modern life, sometimes it seems like we’re just passengers, rather than the drivers, of our own journey. But what if I told you that there’s actually so much we can control? Recognizing these elements can be empowering, helping us focus on the things that matter most and, ultimately, reclaim our peace of mind.

In this blog, I’ll walk through the areas in life where I’ve learned I have the reins. The more I embraced this, the more empowered, resilient, and in control I felt, regardless of the situation.

1. The Words I Choose to Speak

Words have power. I’ve learned that the words I use with myself and others can either uplift or hurt. I try to choose words thoughtfully, speaking with kindness, honesty, and encouragement. This practice not only nurtures my relationships but also shapes how I view myself.

2. The Relationships I Maintain or Don’t

Relationships are choices. Over time, I’ve recognized that I don’t need to maintain connections that drain my energy. I choose to nurture relationships that bring positivity, growth, and mutual respect into my life, letting go of those that no longer serve my well-being.

3. How Nice I Am to Myself in My Head

I can’t control others’ opinions, but I can control my self-talk. Being kind to myself builds resilience and confidence. I’ve realized that self-compassion is a game-changer, helping me face challenges with a positive mindset.

4. Affection I Give to Others

Choosing to show affection—whether it’s a hug, words of appreciation, or quality time—nurtures my relationships. By expressing love openly, I create deeper, more meaningful connections, reminding myself and those around me of the strength of our bond.

5. My Facial Expressions

My face often reflects my inner thoughts, even without words. Smiling or softening my expression can brighten my mood and the atmosphere around me. It’s amazing how a small change in my expressions can positively impact both my day and interactions.

6. How Often I Check or Post on Social Media

Social media can be a great tool, but it can also become overwhelming. By choosing when and how often I engage, I protect my mental space and avoid the pitfalls of comparison. This helps me stay grounded and focused on real-world connections.

7. The Clothes I Wear and How I Feel in Them

How I dress impacts how I feel. Wearing clothes that make me feel comfortable and confident uplifts my mood and gives me a sense of pride in my appearance. Choosing my outfit is a small act of self-expression that boosts my confidence.

8. How I Believe People Perceive Me

While I can’t control how others perceive me, I can control how I carry myself and stay true to my values. By focusing on my character, I project authenticity and integrity, giving others a true sense of who I am without worrying about their judgments.
